This loop runs the spine of the Eastern Panhandle, tracing sections of the Washington Heritage Trail, a 136-mile National Scenic Byway through Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties. You're never far from mountain views out here, and the roads climb through gaps and hollows the whole way around.
The loop crosses Mills Gap partway through, a named pass in the ridgeline that local riders and the trail-mapping folks at Ride the Divides both know by name. From there the road works its way toward Berkeley Springs, where the loop closes near a proper roadhouse.
Ninety-six miles, about three hours of riding. Plenty of daylight left either way you split your day.
